Women and Leadership
Female shamans play an important role in religions. In some cultures in China, Japan, and South Africa women even overrule many male shamans. Women shamans may be noticed for their skills and talents such as healing, protecting, or the ability to find things, and having control over things the ordinary simply cannot. Mircea Eliade believed, "that women shamans represented a degeneration of an originally masculine profession" (Motherpeace).
