Historical Background
The destruction of the Second Temple of Jerusalem by the Romans in 70 CE brought about the end of a temple based ceremonial religion of that region and the widespread dispersion of its people to lands far away from Israel. Following the destruction, the earlier religion had to develop new ways in order to survive. From the centralized, temple-based religion practiced in Israel, another form of religion arose that could now be practiced among Jews that lived outside of Israel. In recognition of this fundamental religious re-orientation, a distinction is often made between biblical Judaism and rabbinical Judaism.

This documentary focuses on many accepts of the origins of the Jewish religion known today as Judaism, as well as the historical and archeological proof that the Jews are Canaanites in origin. The Bible and other historical records have proven that the Hebrew Israelites were Canaanites themselves who seperated themselves from the "higher class" Canaanite rulers who were pagans. These Canaanites who began believing in only one God became known as the Hebrew Israelites and later in history as Jews (Judeans) and Samaritans. From there the documentary focuses on how Judaism evolved during the Assyrian and Babylonian exile and so on. |
